The Minnesota Valley Chorale is for those who love great choral music and those who like to sing it. We’re always looking for great people with good voices to share their talents and join our group.
The Chorale is a group of dedicated vocalists who gather to rehearse and perform vocal works from masters like Mozart to contemporary composers like Whitacre and Lauridsen. The rehearsal year is divided into two semesters. The fall session begins generally the first Tuesday after Labor Day in September. Our rehearsals are Tuesday nights and run from 7:00–9:00 p.m. The spring semester begins with rehearsals early in January. There are no rehearsals in the summer or between our fall concert and the spring semester. We occasionally join other arts organizations like the Mankato Symphony, the MSU concert choir and others for special projects like operas and major works like Brahm’s Requiem and Handel’s Messiah.
The director of the Minnesota Valley Chorale, Eric Harstad, hears auditions for all new singers. This to see how each singer and each voice fits within the Chorale. During the audition, range and voice part are tested, as well as singing a melody from a familiar song like “Silent Night.” The audition process takes place before the semester’s rehearsals start.
